Have you ever had somebody show up at your house unexpectedly? Maybe it's around dinner time, and you're just getting ready to sit down and eat, and you hear the doorbell. You open it up, and it's a friend of yours.
And you're like, "Hey."
"Hey, I'm here."
"Great! Hi!" And you're frantically searching through your brain, trying to remember if you invited your friend over and just forgot or what. Finally you ask, "Uhh, why? Why're you here?"!
"What do you mean? I'm just here."
"You're just here? Well my family—we're sitting down for dinner, but—"
"Oh, so you came to eat?"
"No, I just came to be here."
It's just awkward.
We have to ask ourselves, why is Jesus with us?
This is where it goes to the next level, and a lot of people can't take it. They can agree that God is with them but they just don't know why.
The Bible declares emphatically that God is with us because God is for us. He's here to make sure we're taken care of. He's here to hook us up and back us up. Here's here to provide, protect and empower.
Romans 8:31–32 makes this clear.
"What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?"
This doesn't mean that life doesn't happen folks. Hard things happen. Trials come, in fact, Jesus promised that. They come for a reason, and that's to make us more like Jesus, to give us steadfastness. But when we understand that Jesus is here, we can make it through anything.
God is with us, and He is for us. This is the gospel.
So, no matter what I go through, He is with me and He is for me. Even if it doesn't make sense, He is with me and He is for me. Even if I can't cross every "t" and dot every "i," He is with me and He is for me. No matter what my emotions tell me, no matter what my bodily aches and pains tell me, no matter what my bank account tells me, He is with me and He is for me. He is on my side.
In the darkest part of your journey, the thing that will keep you full of life, peace and happiness is the gospel. It's the knowledge that God is with you and for you.
